This past week I have enjoyed being back at school. Spending time with our wonderful Ralph McCall students is a real joy!

June is also a month of assessments. We are completing a variety of formal and informal assessments to evaluate the learning progress of students. At the beginning of the year, I wrote about our work of advancing skills in literacy and numeracy. We have tests to assess progress literacy and numeracy. Character growth is harder to assess but equally important. When you read your child’s report card at the end of the month, you will, of course, see progress indicators and academic comments relating to your child’s progress in literacy and numeracy. We encourage families to also talk about what the teacher wrote the first comment box on the report card, the Alberta Education Student Competencies. Teachers will comment on just a few of the eight competencies but we have worked on all of them at school this year as we seek to ‘Build Future Ready Students’ starting already in elementary school. How has your child grown in their critical thinking, problem solving, managing of information, creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration, cultural and global citizenship, and personal growth and wellbeing? We hope that your child has grown greatly in the reading, writing, and numeracy skills during the 2023-24 school year. Equally, our hope is that your child has grown in competency for those ‘soft skills’ which will support their success now and throughout their lives.

Staffing Changes

We would like to announce that our assistant principal, Sarah Morrison has accepted another assistant principal position at Crossfield Elementary. She has served our community for the past 3 years and it is with mixed feelings that she leaves Ralph McCall! We wish her well as she takes on her next leadership role!

On Monday, June 17, Gisselle Otero will be joining the office team in an Office Admin Assistant role. We are excited to welcome Gisselle to Ralph McCall.

This time of year, our division is busy hiring and preparing for our 2024/25 school year. We are excited to welcome Emily Borstad, Sasha Sakamoto-Mahan, and Tanya Johnstone to our school. We are still in the process of hiring and look forward to announcing more positions!

Respect Campaign

Over the past few weeks, our staff and students have been focused on promoting our school's positive behaviour expectation: RESPECT! The students who have been caught demonstrating listening to others, following expectations, and embracing uniqueness are recognized by receiving a feather with their name on it! The feather is put on display and added to the bulletin board for all to see and celebrate! We are so proud of our students!
